This one bedroom cottage, available for weekly holiday rental, is located on the white sands of the Morar estuary. At high tide it is less than 100 metres from the sea and swimming is safe and refreshing! At low tide there is a beautiful walk around the shoreline to Camusdarach. The Road to the Isles website has information about the area.
Tougal Cottage is available for weekly holiday rental from late April through the summer season. The cottage is located approximately 2 miles from Morar village and 4 miles from the fishing port of Mallaig.
The cottage has one bedroom, with a bed that will be made up on arrival as a king size double bed but you can easily convert it into two singles for children as there is also a double sofabed in the sitting room. Please note: the bathroom is accessed via the bedroom. Bedding and bed linen are provided; please bring your own beach and bath towels.
For heating, there is a fireplace for a real fire in the living room and fuel for the week is provided; there is an electric wall heater in the living room and another in the bedroom. There is now (as of 12 March 2020) a heated towel rail in the bathroom (as well as the electric fan heater for occasional use) which is keeping the bathroom cosy. Hot water is plentiful.
The kitchen was rebuilt and refurbished over the winter of 2019 and is now a modern, streamlined kitchen with induction hob, multifunction oven, microwave, fridge-freezer and washer-drier and fan heater. There are some photos posted on Inside Tougal Cottage.
There is a television in the sitting room with all the popular channels. For your mobile phone and ‘Myfi’, EE offers a good signal. And we now have BT broadband installed! (as of 19 February 2020).
Dogs are welcome by arrangement. Please bring your dog’s bed/blanket and clean- up equipment.
There is some useful travel information in the Tougal Cottage Information for visitors which includes detailed directions as the postcode, PH40 4PD, covers quite a wide area and satnav is not reliable! ‘Tougal’ is sometimes spelt ‘Toigal’ and is ‘An Taobh Geal’ in Gaelic.
The cottage is located at the tip of the arrow on the OS map above.
Update on 24 March: Thank you for your interest.
The COVID-19 pandemic is having a serious effect on all of us. If you have booked a holiday at Tougal you are advised to cancel; please email firstname.lastname@example.org so the cancellation can be recorded.
On 21/3/20, the Road to the Isles marketing group requested potential visitors stay away from the area. Here is part of their statement to members:
As a community we are following government guidance and preparing to self-isolate, please respect our wishes and support us in protecting our vulnerable community. We have an ageing community, limited medical provisions and only one doctor and ambulance to cover a vast area. Our nearest hospital is a 100 mile trip. Our shops, restaurants, leisure facilities and visitor attractions have ALL closed on the recommendation by the government. Those vital services that remain open are struggling to cope with demand.
I shall be contacting people who have booked to stay in June over the next week.
Bookings for the Summer of 2021 are now being taken, starting after the Easter week (i.e. from the week beginning Saturday 10 April 2021); the cottage will be closed over the Winter of 2021. If you would like to make a booking, please click availability for the calendar and email email@example.com with the dates you’d like to stay. The weekly rent for 2021 will be £450 per week for new (since 2018) visitors to 4 Tougal. (Previously paid rent for returning visitors).
