This one bedroom cottage, available for weekly holiday rental, is located on the white sands of the Morar estuary. At high tide it is less than 100 metres from the sea and swimming is safe and refreshing! At low tide there is a beautiful walk around the shoreline to Camusdarach. The Road to the Isles website has information about the area.
Tougal Cottage is available for weekly holiday rental from mid/late April through the summer season. The cottage is located approximately 2 miles from Morar village and 4 miles from the fishing port of Mallaig.
The cottage has one bedroom, with a bed that will be made up on arrival as a king size double bed but you can easily convert it into two singles for children as there is also a double sofabed in the sitting room. Please note: the bathroom is accessed via the bedroom.
For heating, there is a fireplace for a real fire in the living room and wood for the week is provided; there is an electric wall heater in the living room and another in the bedroom. The heated towel rail in the bathroom keeps the bathroom cosy and hot water is plentiful.
Tougal Cottage kitchen was rebuilt and refurbished over the winter of 2019 and is now a modern, streamlined kitchen with induction hob, multifunction oven, microwave, fridge-freezer and washer-drier and fan heater. The bathroom and bedroom were also refreshed in 2019.
The living room was updated in 2020: BT broadband installed, new windows, some new furniture, a new television screen and all freshly decorated.
Dogs are welcome by arrangement. Please bring your dog’s bed/blanket and clean- up equipment.
There is some useful travel information in the Tougal Cottage Information for visitors which includes detailed directions as the postcode, PH40 4PD, covers quite a wide area and satnav is not reliable! ‘Tougal’ is sometimes spelt ‘Toigal’ and is ‘An Taobh Geal’ in Gaelic.
The cottage is located at the tip of the arrow on the OS map above.
Booking update 13 February 2021.
The cottage is now booked up for the 2021 season. Because of the uncertainty due to the covid, I shall not be taking any bookings for 2022 until it is clear what will be happening in 2021. If we have to cancel some weeks in 2021, people who have already booked weeks in 2021 will then have first choice for a week or two in 2022. I don’t expect the situation will be at all clear until March at the earliest; as soon as I have reliable info I’ll update this page.
For the 2021 season, I am currently anticipating that we shall continue with at least some of the keep-safe-from-covid measures we had in place in 2020 (e.g., leave on Friday, bring your own bedding, bed linen and big towels), with reduced rent. I’ll update this page when the situation is clearer. Please watch this space!
There are lots of lovely photos and videos of the area on The Road to the Isles Facebook.
